The short version
We run no user accounts, no contact forms and no visitor or lead database. Your matching-tool answers and vehicle reg stay in your own browser. Our hosting provider processes short-lived access logs to operate and secure the site. Google Analytics processes usage data only if you press "Allow analytics", and quote partners process information only when you choose to continue to their sites — under their own privacy policies.
1. Who we are
Can't Get Cover (cantgetcover.com) is operated by a UK-based sole trader trading as Can't Get Cover. For the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), the site's operator is the "data controller" for the limited processing described on this page.

2. What this website collects
Almost nothing. This site has no user accounts, no contact forms, no newsletter and no comment system, and it does not store any visitor information on our servers.
Two things process limited data when you use the site:
- Our hosting provider keeps standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, pages requested, browser type) to run and secure the service — as every website host does.
- Google Analytics 4, but only after you choose "Allow analytics" — see section 4.
3. What stays in your browser
Three small items are kept in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device unless you click through to a partner (see section 5), and you can wipe them at any time by clearing your browser data for this site.
- Legacy items (
cgi_tool_v1,cgc_reg_v1) — set by earlier versions of this site (a matching tool and a registration box that no longer exist). The site no longer creates them; any old copy remains only in your browser until you clear your browsing data. - Cookie choice (
cgi_consent_v1) — whether you allowed or declined analytics, so we don't ask again. Kept until you change it via "Cookie choices" in the footer.

4. Analytics — only if you say yes
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to see which guides actually help people. Nothing loads and no request reaches Google until you press "Allow analytics" on the cookie banner. If you press "No thanks", GA4 never runs — the site works identically either way.
If you allow it: GA4 sets its measurement cookies (_ga and _ga_*), records pages viewed, and receives one site event — which clearly-labelled partner link was clicked, and from which page. It never includes your reg or any free text. IP addresses are anonymised, and advertising storage and ad personalisation are switched off in the configuration. Google processes this data as described in its own privacy documentation, and analytics data is retained in our GA4 property for 14 months.

5. When you click through to a partner
Getting a quote always happens on the partner's own website, under their privacy policy — never on ours. What travels with the click:
- Removed partner (temporary cover, until 8 September 2026): no personal data was passed in the link — you start their quote on their own site from scratch. The link carries only the name of the page you came from (used for reporting on which guides genuinely help). See the privacy policy of the partner concerned.
- Quotezone (annual comparison, operated by Seopa Ltd): no personal data is passed in the link — you start their form fresh. See the Quotezone privacy policy.
- Autodosh (car finance, a trading style of MediaBlanket Ltd): no personal data is passed in the link — you start their form fresh on their own site. Autodosh is the data controller for anything you enter there, as is the lender if you are matched and proceed. See the Autodosh privacy notice.
Once you are on a partner's site, the details you enter there are theirs to process — we never see them. Partners report back aggregate conversion information (that a quote or sale happened via our link) so we can be paid; that reporting does not identify you to us.
6. Our lawful bases
- Consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)) — for analytics. You give it via the banner and can withdraw it via Cookie choices at any time.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — for the security and basic operation of the website, covering our host's standard server logs.
We send no marketing emails — we don't collect email addresses at all.
7. Who we share data with
We do not sell data. Ever. We hold no visitor database to sell.
- Regulated partners — only what's described in section 5, only when you click through.
- Our hosting provider — standard server logs, stored on UK/EU infrastructure.
- Google — analytics data, only after consent, as described in section 4.
- Law enforcement or regulators — if we are legally required.
8. How long data is kept
- Browser storage: tool answers 90 days; reg and cookie choice until you clear or change them.
- GA4 analytics (if consented): 14 months.
- Host server logs: the host's standard short rotation period.
- On our own systems: nothing is held, so there is nothing to retain or delete.
9. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right not to be subject to solely automated decisions with legal effect (we make none). Because we hold no personal data about visitors, most requests will be satisfied by clearing your own browser storage — but email info@cantgetcover.com with any request or question and we will help, including pointing you to the right partner if your question is about data entered on their site.
10. Children
This site is about car insurance and car finance for UK drivers, so it is aimed at people 17 and over. We do not knowingly collect any data from children — or, as set out above, from anyone else.
11. Security
The site is served over HTTPS with security headers configured. The honest core of our security position is architectural: we keep no visitor database of any kind, so there is no store of your details with us to breach. The limited technical data that does exist (host access logs; consented analytics) sits with our hosting provider and Google under their own security controls.
12. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled anything, email us first and we'll try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
13. Changes to this policy
Any change to what this site actually does with data will be reflected here first, with the "Last updated" date at the top revised. This policy was rewritten on 19 July 2026 to describe the site's real behaviour in detail.
